E-Score Character Kids is one in a suite of products designed to help you navigate the multimedia environment with a cost-effective, industry adopted measurement system that identifies key drivers across all our products. Which characters do kids consider "Cool," "Boring," "Brave," and "Smart?" While they may not know what "influential" or "sincere" means, they certainly have their ideas of who's "cool." As most of our clients operate across many forms of entertainment, they came to us asking for similar E-Score methodologies for their characters and brands from a kid's perspective. But in the case of younger children, we needed a ratings service which was adapted to the way kids think and speak,and to the way they understand entertainment. We responded with the development of a natural extension of E-Score Celebrity by using the time tested methods in which we've been rating celebrities since 2000.
For product-to-product consistency, E-Score Character Kids (targeting kids 2-5 separately from kids 6-12) needed to have the same underlying methodology for name/character recognition, appeal and attributes as we have in Celebrity. However, we needed to broaden the product development to encompass the unique way children communicate, and how our clients evaluate characters targeted to kids and their parents. By asking kids how they would like to see a character such as "in a movie" or "in a video game," the feedback becomes richer and more actionable. And in the case where there is a real character/actor, our Celebrity and Character scores can be used in tandem to separate the character from the actor as one or the other can often outlast their alter ego.
